Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

In a recent post on Before It's News, there was some controversy regarding Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit"...here are my comments:
2 Tim 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Heb 5:13 &14, "...For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
If you want to understand Romans 8:1 you need to read the whole book of Romans. The first seven chapters of Romans address the problem of sin ending with the cry "...who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" The answer is given in chapter eight. So,

  • First (chp 1-7) we must realize that we are sinners by nature... Romans 3:10-12, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one."
  • Second, that our attempt to please God in our own strength results in the agony of chp 7, (read Galatians 5 for further clarification). And,
  • Third, that the answer is understanding that it is not our concerted effort to please God that pleases Him, but knowing that because all things of of Him, through Him, and to Him, (Romans 11:36), we walk by faith, having ceased from our own works (Hebrew 4: 1-3 & 10).
Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of our faith, (Heb 12:2), and that without faith it is impossible to please Him, (Heb 11:6). Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, (Rom 10:17).As you read through the Word, the Holy Spirit will reveal His truth.
Romans 9:16, "So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy." If your mindset is to indulge yourself (your SELF), you will find that either God will chasten you, (Heb 12:6), or reveal you in the judgement, (Mat 25).

John 5:39, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Acts 17:11, "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."
Romans 8:27, "And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God."
1 Corinthians 2:10, "But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God."
